For many of us, it is hard to get through a day without sitting in front of a computer. While looking at the computer screen, some people experience tired or sore eyes, blurred vision, or headaches that make it difficult to stay at task. Working at the computer will not harm your eyes, but keeping a few things in mind may help increase efficiency, productivity, and comfort.
People tend to blink less when concentrating on the computer monitor.Try blinking more often or using artificial tear drops if you experience a burning, drying sensation. Take short "vision" breaks, allowing your eyes to periodically look away from the screen for short intervals. Avoid placing your monitor in a location subject to reflections, and try not to face a window as you work. Adjust your work station to reduce neck strain and maximize efficiency and comfort. Have your vision checked to be sure your eyeglass or contact lens prescription is up to date. Your eye doctor can determine if you need a special correction for working at the computer. Sometimes this prescription can be incorporated into your regular eyeglasses or may function better in a special pair of computer glasses.
